2013 Lexus GS 350: One cool car

Despite a Texas summer of back to back 100-degree temperatures, the 2013 Lexus GS 350 proved to be a cool ride. When my editor, Madelyn Miller, asked me to take this bright red beauty for a whirl, I did not hesitate. Lexus is a luxury brand to which few people say “no”,   I jumped at the opportunity.

The first thing I noticed was how comfortable the seats were. Plush leather, molded cushions invited me in and offered a measure of comfort not found in some other luxury vehicles. The seats were a perforated leather trim with a driver memory system and 10-way adjustable power front seats. I ran my hands around the leather wrapped steering wheel. Smooth as silk!

A quick touch of the keyless start/stop brought up a really simple and easy to read and understand dash menu including that well know Lexus premium audio system, HD radio, a voice recognition system and so much more. Best of all, everything was easy to read and understand and could be personalized for more than one driver. It didn’t take all afternoon to become familiar with the many functions of the car.

Ok. I was sold. I was ready to see what this cool ride could do on the hot roads of Texas. As I backed out of my parking spot and onto the street, I knew the Lexus was going to present me with a spectacular ride. I drove through the streets of downtown Dallas in lots of stop and go traffic. No worries for the Lexus. The car performed smoothly as if it had roamed these streets for many years. No surprises. Just reliable starts and stops. No jerks. Smooth take-offs.

While at a red light, I realized I needed to put on my best sunglasses. The Lexus GS 350 is definitely a car for stars and people who want to look like stars. I’m certain that to those who were watching me, the car screamed “watch and wish”! As I pulled from the light, I decided to hit the nearest freeway to really see how the car would perform.

Dallas is not Los Angeles, but we do some fast and furious freeway traffic. But, again, no worries. I felt very reassured in the GS 350. The 3.5 liter V8 motor and anti-lock brakes would serve me well. Also, I liked having the blind spot monitor and heads up display. Should something happen, I felt safe and confident with the all-around airbag configuration, the brake assist and traction feature. As I maneuvered in and out of traffic, I knew this was a beautiful car not only on the outside, but on the inside as well.

The Lexus GS 350 is truly a car for everybody. It’s sporty yet roomy. There is ample trunk space for the shopper, like me. There are numerous safety features for families, like mine. There is the look of luxury for the driver who wants to draw make heads turn, like me. And best of all, the safety and reliability offered by the Lexus brand is so dependable. Prices begin in the mid-$40,000 range.
So, now it’s your turn to take a cool ride on a hot Texas road in the Lexus GS 350. Enjoy!
