2017 San Antonio Auto & Truck Show:Entertaining and Educational

2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue SportThe Alamo City has always been a favorite destination, so traveling down to the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show combined two interests. Any time we have an opportunity to see all the newest vehicles displayed in one place, my car-writing husband and I want to be there. Especially when it includes a trip to San Antonio!

Last week we stayed at the Marriott River Walk Hotel on Market Street, just across from the auto show at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. Our balcony at the downtown hotel overlooked the scenic San Antonio River, and the hotel’s elevators take you down to the river below street level for easy strolling.

The 49th annual auto show, hosted by San Antonio Auto Dealers, were showcasing over 300 new vehicles. They featured the latest products and technologies available from manufacturers, including interactive displays and drive opportunities. The show kicked off with a festive party Wednesday night, with Austin’s popular retro-rock band The Spazmatics performing live on stage. Buffet tables loaded with food and bars dispensing a wide variety of beverages were also big draws. The dance floor beckoned a few brave customers, while casino tables stayed crowded with well-dressed “gamblers” trying to win chips for prizes.

But the really big draw was found inside the auto show, with row after row of gleaming new vehicles ready to be examined. Auto shows provide the perfect opportunity to compare vehicles side by side, at your leisure, without any pressure from a pesky salesperson.

Some highlights from the show were the Automotive Aftermarket Expo, featuring innovative ways to personalize the vehicle of your choice.  Show goers were able to do more than just kick a few tires in the pickup truck area, but were also given an opportunity to test drive their favorites.  Our favorite was the 2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport truck, beautiful to look at and thrilling to drive.

“The custom look and high-impact colors have been well received in the marketplace and this new Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport will surely stand out on dealers’ lots and in customers’ driveways,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep & Ram Brands. “Enthusiasts demand that their trucks get noticed and our Ram 1500 Sport lineup delivers a durable, powerful alternative with great visual appeal.”

Special standard features on the Hydro Blue Sport include a sport performance hood with black decals, body-colored Sport grille with black billet inserts and black R-A-M letter badge, flat black exterior body-side and tailgate badging. Black bezel projector headlamps and LED tail lights complement the black body badging. MSRP starts at $46,060.

I also loved looking at the new Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti models, which are all beautiful vehicles and favorites to drive. I tried not to gaze too long at out-of-my-range beauties like the 2018 Rolls-Royce Wraith or the 2018 Maserati Quattroporte/Gran Turisimo/Cabrio ($105,500).
