Elegant Acura ILX Exceeds Expectations

2016 Acura ILX Tech Plus A-SpecThe 2016 Acura ILX is a very classy, high performing sedan, and it looks great too.
My test model gleamed in Crystal Pearl with an ebony interior, and featured such special luxury touches as a power moon roof with tilt features, LED illuminated taillights, and jewel eye LED headlights.

The ILX purred smoothly with its 2.4 liter DOHC 16-valve I-TEC 4-cylinder engine with 8 speed dual clutch transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension, with electric power-assisted rack and pinion steering.

Thanks to the Tech Plus edition, the ILX A-Spec package also offered 18″ alloy wheels, sport seats with luxury suede inserts and contrast stitching, black headliner, fog lights, body color side sill garnish, rear decklid spoiler, and added aluminum sport pedals.

In addition, they offered a driver recognition memory system, XM Satellite Radio, HD Radio, blind spot information system (aka BLIS), rear cross traffic monitor and HomeLink System; all as standard features for Acura’s 2016 ILX Tech Plus A-Spec edition.

These amazing added options seemed to keep on keeping on, with more standard features like a driver’s 8-way power seat and front passenger’s 4-way power seat, USB audio interface, heated front seats, Bluetooth hands-free link, steering wheel-mounted controls, power windows and door locks, and push button ignition plus a key-less access system with smart entry feature.

An AcuraWatch Plus Package was also added to this model, and contained adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist system, lane departure warning and color meter display screen.

Most drivers, including this one, would expect to pay a great deal more for all these “extras,” but the ILX had an MSRP of only $34,890. Destination charges brought the total for the test model to $35,810.Last weekend my husband and I took turns driving the ILX out to the small Texas town of Seymour, Northwest of Wichita Falls, for his high school class reunion.

Tommy Stiver, Mary Miller Hale and Durhl CausseyHis classmates like Tommy Stiver, now an actor based in LA who often plays Santa Claus (can you see the resemblance?) and Mary Miller Hale chat with my spouse Durhl Caussey at the Seymour High School Reunion lunch.

We really enjoyed having lots of head and leg room in the front seats, plus plenty of space for our luggage in the trunk, listening to our favorite music stations on the satellite radio, and being warned ahead of time of potential road hazards or accidents.

The Acura Navigation system with voice recognition and multi-view rear camera, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and other tech features were all helpful.
Best of all, the Acura offered fuel economy of 25 mpg in town and 36 on the highway, for a combined average of 29 mpg.  Just about perfect for a long road trip!
